Demand for Rugged Phones Expected to Grow by 25%

More and people are expected to switch from the increasingly-fragile consumer smartphones to their ruggedized, more reliable counterparts. According to Channel News Australia, experts estimate the demand for rugged smartphones might increase up to 25% until the summer of 2018.

A small segment up for a great future growth

Research data from CCS Insight shows that the key adopters are mainly workers from industries with outdoors job sites or tough environments (construction, oil & petrochemicals, energy, utilities). Although currently, rugged phones are just a small segment of the overall mobile electronics market, this segment is expected to reach 1.6bn unit shipments by the end of 2017.

Why consumers switch to rugged smartphones?

Consumers who turn to rugged smartphones motivate their choice with the reliability and military-level resistance to shocks or even water damage guaranteed by tough smartphones. Plus, in the past 2 years, manufacturers have learned that in order to keep up with the market, they must not compromise the elegant design. Even if robustness is a decisive factor, good-looking design also matters. Therefore, now, the rugged segment offers a generous selection of resistant YET stylish and slick smartphones, while still keeping the “bulky and thick” models as an option for industrial heavy-duty users.

Ben Wood, head of research at CCS Insight, declared that the sturdiness of rugged mobile phones makes them even more attractive to people who are fed up with delicate devices.

“The mainstream Android smartphone market is now dominated by a small number of large players offering similar looking devices with near similar features. Differentiation is becoming increasingly challenging,” he said.

Rugged smartphones: Practical. Slick. Built for the real world!

Rugged smartphones are more than the usual consumer-grade smartphone. They’re built for the real life and they’re not just a modern accessory you carry around, fearing you might scratch it, drop it or get it wet at any point.

Tough smartphones are trusted by their users because they’re still working in the roughest conditions, including extreme temperatures -20 °C and 60 °C.

They usually come with certain degrees of certified (therefore tested) waterproofness and shockproofness, amplified loudspeakers, a specialized SOS button with emergency call function, RugDisplay Glass, MIL-STD 810G Special Protection Against Falls, Vibration, Humidity, Air Pressure And Temperature Variations and many more similar features.
